Free music from one of my favorite remixer/producer DJ KUE

I've been on to this cat for a few years, always solid on the remix tip, mostly cause he doesn't overdo it. He takes the best element of songs and makes the a little dirtier, or a little mo' funkay. here's a mini-pack of what I think is his best work, click to download, hope you dig it.

DJ KUE ON MYSPACE

Messin around in the studio...

NEWS FLASH: working class DJs are under seige. Unless you are a mega producer or celebrity of some sort., consistently gigging for income is becoming more and more difficult. Dj skills that command a fair wage are unfortunately being superceeded by in-expensive DJs that own a laptop, have lots of friends, and can read billboard charts. This might sound like a rant, but really it's not. Simply put:  The 3-way combination of the 'alluring dj image', the simplification of basic dj technology, and the availability of laptops is lowering the relative value of 'djing for most promoters and club owners. Not juniors, promoters, owners, or experienced DJs are to blame for this, it's 'only business' and thats the truth.

All we can do as oldschool DJs is fight back fairly, by flexing some skills, and praying that the public still retains a shred of understading and respect for djing as an artform, and as a technical skill that takes an enormous amout of time and dedication to truly become good at.

Fancy some tea and biscuits?

Big news on a personal tip, I just locked down a booking in Bristol, UK, for a massive event taking place on May 29th. I've been told they're expecting 1500+ people and the crew that's hosting it is top notch cats. Obviously this is a massive milestone for myself, and hopefully a sign of many things to come. I'll keep the videos and photos flowin while I'm out there, expect madness ;)

***World's Greatest Mixtapes*** Vol. 6

Greg Wilson's 'Essential Mix'. 2 hours of Classic funk, disco and 'real' electro at its roots, from a british dude thast been djing since the 60s. I stumbled on this thing completely radomely and have been drinking its sweet audio-nectar ever since.

***WORLD'S GREATEST MIXTAPES*** Vol 5

Though this is technically Girl Talks' new album, it delivers as one seemless and expertly crafted mashup mixtape. Even on his own website (where it is also available for free download) it is stated that the album is 'meant to be listened to as a whole', although it is also available to be downloaded in chunks.

Though Girl Talk really isn't a dj, I think any dj has to give this guy props. He rocks crowds, mashes up tracks like a mofo, has a tour schedule that would make led Zepplin Jelous, and he eats golliath arcane record label copyright laws for breakfast so I like him. If he added a couple tech 12s to his live show and layed down some cuts, instead of just rocking the laptop, he would be officially invinceable.

***WORLD'S GREATEST MIXTAPES! Volume 1***

Mix tapes and Djing are as inseparable as music and eardrums. It’s hard to imagine one without the other. Like a musician with no songs, an MC without mic, or a club without speakers: possible, but unlikely. Thus as a Dj myself I consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur of mix tapes. I make my own, of course, but that is not what this blog series is about, because in large part thanks to the marvels of the Internet, I also collect them constantly; and play them in car, house and Iphone daily, like a soundtrack to my life.

I’ve decided that this endeavor can no longer remain solo. It’s time for me to embark on a quest to find and disseminate ‘THE WORLD’S GREATEST MIXTAPES’ (cue thunder) for everyone’s listening enjoyment. On a weekly basis, I will post a download link to a fresh mix tape, either hot of the presses, or dug out of the depths of my hard drive in hope of one day finding the best… of the best... of the best… ;)

Volume 1: we gotta start this series of with straight fire, something to set the bar, and something to keep ya’ll comin back. Therefore I’m imparting to you:

 DJ SPINBADS’S 90’s MEGAMIX

This thing is like a socio-historical commentary on the 90s. Insane cuts, mixing, and blends, a track selection that lives up to the theme perfectly, and more celebrity drops than TMZ this mix is ‘all that and a bag o chips’ (that’s 90s lingo for all you youngins). Not the newest, but in my opinion timeless, especially if, like me you grew up in the 90s. enjoy

GLOW PARTY: The Aftermath...

Massive Thanks to the 1000+ party people that were in attendance last Friday, and my apologies to the several hundred that couldn’t stomach that line. That was a party that will not be soon forgotten. Shouts out to Tito Deville, Adam Mah, Mauricio Galvez, for their hosting excellence; Props to Stmulant j, J-Traxx and Dre Morel who were supporting myself on the wheels of steel all night; and last but certainly not least big-ups to Eric Soloman and Rosette Luv, co-stars of MTV’s ‘Youth Electric’ for Their amazing live performances. If you missed out stay tuned, our next installment is on the horizon!

Getting to know the TiTo DeViLLe BaNd

We shot the following at the request of the good folks at MuchMusic as an audition tape for season 3 of DisBAND (http://www.muchmusic.com/tv/disband/). If we manage to land that, on top of the launching of Tito's tv show 'Youth Electric' on MTV on August 12 (http://www.mtv.ca/tvshows/show.jhtml?id=27580), I'd say we've had a pretty good summer, exposure-wise. I'll let the video speak for itself. it's a goodder...

disclaimer: I was not drunk during any of this video shoot ;)

Our next show is in Whistler at the GLC on Thursday August 12th. For more info check out:http://www.clubzone.com/events/Whistler/201257/Deraylor-Music-Festival-2010-at-Kokanee-Crankworx

PARTY OF THE SUMMER! so far....

On July 10th, 2010 Vancouver seriously stepped up its party capabilities for one sunny, sexy afternoon. Atop the 'W' building in gastown, with a panoramic view of the entire city; MTV hosted a serious throwdown in order to shoot the pilot for the next reality TV show: 'House Of Dreams". This thing went off! with none other than my lucky ass both djing the party and performing with Tito, Will, and Adam (Tito Deville Band) for the cameras. Definitely An experience i wont soon forget! Props and congrats to Tito, Eric Soloman, and Rostette, the stars of the show, and catalysts of this entire adventure! fingers crossed for more massive things to come!

You can catch all of us performing at Club 560 on August 5th, stay tuned for more details. Make sure to join my facebook group: Dj Kenya Online, for the most up to date info!
